What about Boeing's mission and the work we do inspires you?
What inspires me most about Boeing’s mission is the company’s unified dedication to making it not just something to aim for, but something to be true to every day. The work we do here at Boeing has a real impact and changes the world. That inspires me to work as an individual towards Boeing’s mission as well.
What internship do you participate in – Business, Engineering or IT & Data Science Analytics?
Engineering.
What Boeing product(s) or service(s) do you work on?
I work in the 787 Fleet Chief Office on the Airline Support Engineering team.
What's been the most rewarding project you've worked on as a Boeing intern? What did you do specifically on that project?
My internship experience has been extremely valuable, as I’ve worked on not one but two very rewarding projects. The first was helping with the AeroMexico Executive Review Meeting in Mexico City, Mexico in June, where I put together and delivered reliability-related presentations. This was a very rewarding experience, as I got to interact face-to-face with one of our customers and see things from their perspective. Interns don’t normally get the opportunity for that kind of exposure, and it was an incredible experience to be able to see the entire ERM process through the eyes of an ASE.
The other project that has been extremely rewarding is working with one of the Senior Deputy Fleet Chiefs to get together sets of specialty tooling to support the 787 fleet in the event of a flap removal and replacement due to AOG or any other situation. Currently, there is no complete set of this tooling in the world, so once I wrap this project up and get the sets of tooling, I will have solved a real, fleet-wide, worldwide issue that will help keep ground time due to flap removals/replacements to a minimum. When I started this project, I didn’t think it would be nearly as complex as it has been. I had to coordinate across a multitude of different teams, even getting to travel to Everett to further understand the tooling we need to obtain. It has been far more complex than I initially thought, but it showed me the value in operating as One Boeing.
How will your internship experience at Boeing influence your future career?
My internship at Boeing definitely made me want to start my engineering career here at Boeing once I graduate. When I started this internship, I wasn’t really sure what exactly I wanted to do once I graduated, but my internship and the projects I’ve gotten to work on showed me that I definitely want to work in the aerospace field.
How do you think we are pushing the limits of aerospace technology?
We never cease to look for areas of improvement or the next best thing. There is always something new being worked on at Boeing.
Describe 1-2 things you’ve learned as an intern that you wouldn’t learn from your coursework.
The most fascinating thing I’ve learned as an intern is how many different departments and people there are working behind the scenes of the airlines themselves in order to keep planes flying.
What's something you wish you knew before you started your internship?
Before I started my internship, I wish I had known how much I was going to love it. Before coming, I was very nervous about how things were going to be. Both at work and outside of work, this entire summer has been one of the most enjoyable summers I’ve had.
