What about Boeing's mission and the work we do inspires you?
Boeing has always been a reference in the aerospace industry as a global industrial champion and leader. As an Aeronautical Engineer, I’ve always wanted to work in a company like this, where the work of every single person helps build the future of humanity.
What internship did you participate in – Business, Engineering or IT & Data Science Analytics?
I participated in an engineering internship.
What Boeing product(s) or service(s) do you work on?
I’m working on the Model-Based Design and simulation of aircraft flight deck avionics systems.
What was the most rewarding project you've worked on as a Boeing intern? What did you do specifically on that project?
During my internship, I contributed to the Model-Based Design and testing of the 777X Air Data Reference Function (ADRF). My tasks were related to the automation of the tests that were performed to the ADRF model that the team was developing in Simulink.
How did your internship experience at Boeing influence your career?
Thanks to my internship at Boeing, I got familiar with the job of MBE systems engineers. My experience was very positive, because of how my manager and coworkers treated me. I felt part of the team from the very first day, and I realized how my contributions were important to the evolution of the project. As I felt really grateful for having such an experience, I finally decided to apply to an open position, and I soon became a member of the MBE team in Madrid.
How do you think we are pushing the limits of aerospace technology?
Boeing is an amazing company. People know it, the world knows it. Being a member of this family is how you quickly realize what the limits are at Boeing: there are no limits at all! When an idea comes up, Boeing encourages us to share it. They help us push it – not only if the idea is valuable for the company, but also if it would improve the future of aerospace and the entire world. Feeling empowered by Boeing is how great ideas happen. And this is how Boeing believes in us and pushes the limits of the technology farther and farther.
Describe 1-2 things you’ve learned as an intern that you wouldn’t learn from your university coursework.
During my internship, I learned that commitment is what precedes success. Being committed is doing what you said you would do and executing all your tasks while putting the best of you on each of them. I learned that each person is different, with different levels of knowledge or expertise in different areas, and that there’s always someone who would do it in a more clever and faster way. But this doesn’t mean you should feel bad with the work you do or make you think that your tasks as an intern are less important. Be proud of the work you do as an intern, because even the most experienced employee once started as a junior employee, and Boeing will give you all the opportunities to shine bright and will push your skills to the top.
What's something you wish you knew before you started your internship?
I wish my Matlab/Simulink skills were higher when I started my internship at Boeing in 2017, because I would have had the opportunity to contribute even more to the project. In any case, I feel very proud of the support I received from my teammates, and I am very thankful for all I learned during my internship.
