This role provides the opportunity to become a system safety engineer gaining the expertise in safety engineering activities. Working within a large Team of System Safety Engineers and learning to undertake all aspects of systems safety activities in support of UK safety cases for modifications to aerospace platforms, complex systems and supporting equipment as required.
The role has the following key responsibilities:
- Learn to develop safety cases and associated documentation in accordance with Defence Standard 00-056 for modifications to UK aerospace platforms, systems and supporting equipment.
- Learn how to do the following:
- Develop a Project/programme safety management plans.
- Perform safety assessment of design and influencing design through safety considerations.
- Conduct Hazard identification and analysis including: Preliminary hazard identification, functional failure analysis, operating and support hazard analysis, occupational health hazard analysis fault tree analysis using the Fault Tree+ module of Reliability Workbench
- Participate in zonal safety assessment.
- Generation and maintenance of a Hazard Log.
- Develop and maintain Safety cases, safety case reports.
- Developing safety arguments using claims, argument evidence or goal structuring notation with the Adelard Assurance and Safety Case Environment (ASCE).
- Opportunity to Liaison with other Boeing, Customer and Supplier technical disciplines, when appropriate, to gather evidence to support the safety case.
- Support the preparation for customer safety meetings and system safety working groups.
- Assist in programme planning and support for safety activities.
- Identify risks, issues and opportunities and support the development of mitigation plans.
- Assist under general supervision, the development, maintenance, review and update of safety process.
Some UK and US travel may be required.
Required competencies:
- A degree in an engineering or science discipline or experience working in an aerospace/complex systems environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Enthusiasm and a desire to learn.
Desirable competencies:
- The candidate should possess strong communication skills, technical competency, and have awareness of project management concepts/tools.
- Specific platform or system experience and product knowledge is desired, along with experience of UK MoD safety policies, processes and culture.
- Previous industry or military service Safety Engineering experience is desirable.
