The Opportunity
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is delivering the MQ‑28 Ghost Bat, a next‑generation collaborative uncrewed combat air vehicle for the Australian Defence Force. We are seeking an experienced EHS Specialist to embed safety, health and environmental excellence across the new MQ‑28 Production Facility at Wellcamp, Toowoomba.
In this role you will join a specialist team delivering an extensive factory fit‑out project (approx. 18 months), focused on supporting all EHS requirements for installation and commissioning of large aircraft manufacturing plant and equipment. After fit‑out is complete, the role will transition to supporting business‑as‑usual EHS for MQ‑28 production.
You will work closely with engineering, operations, facilities and program management to identify hazards, determine risk controls and help ensure a safe, compliant and efficient facility. Experience in major construction, high‑risk production or complex manufacturing environments is highly desirable. The role includes contractor management and site safety coordination across multiple interfaces.
You will report to the Program EHS Manager and receive day‑to‑day direction from a Senior EHS Specialist. As a pivotal member of the safety team you will drive continuous improvement under BDA's safety management system, champion a generative safety culture and lead EHS initiatives in a complex aircraft manufacturing environment.
Why this is exciting
- Be on the ground floor of Boeing's first Australian manufacturing facility in 50 years and contribute to the build and ongoing development of a state-of-the-art site that will deliver Australia's military-designed combat aircraft and redefine how advanced aircraft are made.
- Work on a high‑visibility, advanced defence program (MQ‑28) that combines autonomy, aerospace systems and innovative production approaches.
- Shape the future of Australian aerospace manufacturing — your work will support national defence capability and the growth of local industry.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety walkthroughs with leadership, workers and contractors to identify hazards and non‑compliances.
- Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and role‑specific safety briefings in daily pre‑start meetings.
- Maintain and uphold project safety documentation including WHS plans, SWMS, task risk assessments, permits and plant pre‑start records.
- Liaise with project stakeholders (project managers, supervisors, contractors, clients and regulators) to coordinate safety requirements and resolve EHS issues.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness: maintain and exercise emergency plans, first‑aid provisions, rescue capability and drills.
- Manage competency records: collect, verify and maintain licences, trade certificates and induction records; maintain the competency register and expiry reminders.
- Manage plant onboarding: ensure required plant documentation is obtained and stored in accordance with project processes.
- Assist with incident reporting, investigations, root‑cause analysis and corrective action development.
- Support WHS consultation and contribute to the construction project risk register.
- Assist development of Safe Work Method Statements and other risk management documentation for high-risk construction/installation activities.
Who we're looking for
- Experience in dedicated EHS roles within construction or high‑risk manufacturing/production environments preferred.
- Tertiary qualification in EHS, or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of WHS and environmental codes, legislation and risk management methodologies.
- Experience in contractor management, audits and corrective action processes.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical problem solving and documentation skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills; ability to engage site teams at all levels.
- Valid Construction White Card.
- Willingness to be based at Wellcamp, Toowoomba with occasional travel to suppliers and other Boeing sites.
- Ability to meet Defence security and ITAR requirements; willingness to obtain relevant clearances.
Desirable
