The Opportunity
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are seeking a Configuration Assurance Specialist to join the MQ‑28 Ghost Bat Production Facility currently being built at Wellcamp Toowoomba, QLD.
Boeing is revolutionising aerospace with cutting-edge AI-driven drone technology, and we're looking for passionate Quality professionals to be part of this game-changing journey! If you're excited about precision, innovation, and next-gen aviation, this is your chance to make an impact in Australian aerospace history.
As a Configuration Assurance Specialist, you will be responsible for the development and deployment of the Quality Management System required to support configuration from as-designed to as-planned and as-built.
This role you will be part of a team that builds something that matters, grow with a high-performing team, and leave a legacy in Australian defence manufacturing
Why this is exciting
- This is a rare opportunity to work on Boeing's first final assembly facility outside North America and help build a state-of-the-art site that will deliver Australia's first military-designed combat aircraft in more than 50 years and redefine how advanced aircraft are made.
- Work on an advanced, high‑visibility defence program (MQ‑28) that blends autonomy, aerospace systems and new production approaches.
- Be part of a team that will shape the future of Australian aerospace manufacturing — your work will support national defence capabilities and the growth of local industry.
What you'll get to do:
- Configuration Management: Integrate contractual and Boeing Quality Management System requirements into all aspects of production processes and documentation, ensuring that all delivery paperwork is accurate and complete. Knowledge of drawing/data systems (e.g., "used on" drawings, part relationships, product data management) and configuration management principles and processes (e.g., part number control, revision level, naming conventions, product identification numbering systems) is essential.
- Audits: Support Product Configuration Audits (PCA) and Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) to verify compliance with quality management system standards.
- Quality Metrics and Certification Plans: Develop quality metrics, design, and production certification plans to ensure compliance with contractual, company, and regulatory requirements.
- Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis and develop and deploy corrective actions to resolve production configuration issues and strive for zero defects.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the wider project pillars on configuration improvements metrics and findings, and support Quality Production Specialists in their roles. Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics) and Operations departments/disciplines (e.g., Fabrication, Assembly, Tooling, Quality, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering) is important to understand the interactions between departments and how their products/processes affect one another.
- Continuous Improvement: Establish the improvements needed with the program's configuration management, inclusive of paperwork & process needed to support this role. Ability to determine the process to be used to accomplish goals, properly document processes, and understand how to organize people and activities is crucial.
Who we're looking for:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in quality assurance and configuration management, preferably in aerospace or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of the AS9100 standard.
- Hands-on experience in part/process qualification and certification.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and metrics.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of software development and testing tools (e.g., editors, compilers, linkers, desktop simulations, configuration management tools, requirements management tools) capability and usage is a plus.
- Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area.
Security requirement:
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
Location:
- Wellcamp, Toowoomba
