The Opportunity
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are seeking a Calibration Technician Lead to join the MQ‑28 Ghost Bat Production Facility currently being built at Wellcamp Toowoomba, QLD. In this role you will be a Specialist in Computer-Aided-Measuring (CAM), supporting precision tooling and measurement activities critical to manufacturing excellence. This role plays a key part in ensuring dimensional accuracy and quality compliance through advanced computer-aided measurement, calibration, and verification of NC programs within a dynamic production environment.
As part of the Quality and Tooling function, you will provide expertise in measurement collection, dimensional analysis, and tooling system maintenance, while supporting the calibration and validation of machine control data (MCD) and NC programs. You will also utilize hand and bench measuring equipment to verify tooling and component conformity, ensuring adherence to stringent quality standards.
This role you will be part of a team that builds something that matters, grow with a high-performing team, and leave a legacy in Australian defence manufacturing.
Why this is exciting
- This is a rare opportunity to work on Boeing's first final assembly facility outside North America and help build a state-of-the-art site that will deliver Australia's first military-designed combat aircraft in more than 50 years and redefine how advanced aircraft are made.
- Work on an advanced, high‑visibility defence program (MQ‑28) that blends autonomy, aerospace systems and new production approaches.
- Be part of a team that will shape the future of Australian aerospace manufacturing — your work will support national defence capabilities and the growth of local industry.
What you'll get to do:
- Lead computer-aided measurement services including data collection, dimensional analysis, and reporting to support tooling and manufacturing processes.
- Calibrate and verify NC programs and machine control data to ensure accuracy and compliance with engineering specifications.
- Utilise hand and bench measuring equipment to conduct detailed inspections and dimensional checks on tooling and manufactured parts.
- Maintain and update tooling measurement systems, including coordinate measuring machines, laser trackers, and other precision instruments.
- Lead training and facilitate deployment of measurement techniques and tooling calibration processes within the team.
- Analyse measurement data to identify discrepancies, recommend corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure tooling and measurement processes align with production requirements and quality standards.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to guide measurement and calibration activities.
- Support quality system processes by documenting inspection results, maintaining calibration records, and ensuring compliance with Boeing quality procedures.
- Foster teamwork and knowledge sharing to enhance measurement capabilities and tooling accuracy across the organization.
Who we're looking for:
- 8+ years' experience in tooling measurement, calibration, or quality assurance within aerospace manufacturing or a related precision engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of computer-aided design and manufacturing tools (e.g., CAD/CAM, CATIA, Unigraphics) and their application in tooling and measurement.
- Proficiency in using coordinate measuring machines, laser trackers, and other advanced measurement systems.
- Experience calibrating and verifying NC programs and machine control data to support manufacturing accuracy.
- Skilled in the use of hand and bench measuring equipment for detailed dimensional inspections.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, quality systems, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong planning and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Security requirement:
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
