Boeing Defence UK Limited (BDUK) is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 2000 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK Defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook and Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services.
The Hangar Operative role is designed to provide support to hangar, tools and aircraft equipment required during Aircraft Maintenance, Major Repairs and Modification work of aircraft transferred to Boeing.
The Hangar Operative is accountable to the Tool Store Lead for the Issue, Control and Maintenance of all tooling and ground support equipment within a defined area of responsibility.
Role Overview and Responsibilities:
This position will form part our aircraft maintenance team working on the airfield and around aircraft.
The role will involve the management of waste and recycling, deliveries to other sites unloading and loading of goods daily inspection of vehicles as well as being involved with aircraft movements. Part of the position may involve coverage of tool stores and supply chain support.
You will be responsible for working largely unsupervised and undertaking daily duties in the hangar environment, as well as ad-hoc requirements as they arise.
Additionally, you will be responsible for all the waste management cleanliness and husbandry in the hangar, transportation and loading tasks and escorting deliveries on the airfield.
Assists with processing and movement of production and other materials into and out of storage, production and other locations to support the flow of production following standard work instructions.
Assists in monitoring work in process.
Posts updates to automated systems to insure parts availability.
Identifies problems or discrepancies with parts and materials.
Assists within the work group to expedite and complete production activities to avoid schedule delays.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Prior knowledge of airfield driving, aircraft, tool control and FOD is desirable but not essential. Must be familiar with basic health and safety conditions of working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
A good communicator, with a demonstrable ability to successfully communicate requirements to others and with internal and external stakeholders.
Can work autonomously and requires minimal instruction and supervision for routine work and general instructions for new lines of work, or special assignments.
Preferred Education and Background
Full clean UK driving license essential.
Be able to pass an eye and colour perception test for airfield driving permit.
Fork lift license/experience highly desirable.
