Boeing is seeking a SLS Associate Chief Engineer - Propulsion based out of the Kennedy Space Center site in Florida.
As the SLS Propulsion Associate Chief Engineer, you will be at the forefront of human space exploration, providing crucial engineering leadership for NASA's Space Launch System—the rocket that will send astronauts to the Moon and eventually Mars. Reporting to the SLS Program Chief Engineer, you'll ensure the engineering technical integrity, safety, and quality for Propulsion sub-system(s) and components on the SLS Core Stage (CS) and Exploration Upper Stage (EUS).
In this pivotal role, you will directly influence America's return to deep space exploration by:
Oversight of the technical aspects of propulsion sub-system design, development, procurement/manufacture, integration, test, and launch operation support on SLS (CS and EUS)
Solving complex engineering challenges that arise in the propulsion domain
Provide technical subject matter expertise and technical guidance to propulsion sub-system IPT
Establish and/or leverage engineering processes and design practices that ensure the highest quality and safety standards for human spaceflight
Mentoring the next generation of aerospace engineers and technical leaders

Position Responsibilities:
Directly support and partner with the SLS Propulsion and Core Stage IPTs in execution across the program lifecycle (design, development, procurement/manufacture, integration, test, launch operations)
Establish a culture of proactive technical oversight, risk management, and rapid issue resolution, providing alternative paths for issue resolution and an open dialogue on technical issues.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams across supply chain, engineering, quality, and operations to ensure seamless technical integration of propulsion sub-system and components
Champion comprehensive root cause and corrective action processes and discipline to address significant technical issues within propulsion domain (to include Boeing designed solutions and supplier delivered solutions)
Prevent traveled technical risk and ensure that technical risks and issues are driven rapidly to closure.
Collaborate with cross-functional and program teams to identify and address propulsion sub-system and component related issues and implement corrective actions.
Provide technical guidance and support to propulsion sub-system and component engineering teams, ensuring adherence to specifications and standards.
Implement and enforce engineering functional excellence in people, processes, tools, and practices.
Sponsor and support propulsion agenda topics at the SLS Program Engineering Review Board.
Represent the Office of the Chief Engineer in technical and programmatic reviews, as delegated.
Mentor and coach propulsion IPT engineering managers, technical leads, and engineers.
Domestic travel may be required up to 30% of the time depending on business needs.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
5+ years of experience in technical leadership
3+ years of experience in the aerospace industry
10+ years of experience with the design and development of propulsion systems and components
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Advanced degree in engineering or related field
Experience managing multiple technical projects simultaneously
Leadership training and demonstrated success in team leadership
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
Familiarity with NASA standards and processes
Experience with large cryogenic liquid propellant main propulsion sub-systems and components
NASA Site Access:
This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $138,550 - $187,450
