Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Mid-Level Fabrication Specialist to join the Space Launch System (SLS) team in Kennedy Space Center, FL.
This position will support Orbital Tube Welding for SLS Core Stage Integration at NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB).
Position Responsibilities:
Performs fit-up and trims of tubes per specifications for best fit
Welds tubes and fittings together using Orbital Tube Welding process
Assembles and installs flight hardware on vehicle
Locates and drills secondary structure during assembly
Performs machine set-up, machining, welding set-up, welding, sheet metal fabrication and extrusion, tube bending and fabrication tasks
Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components
Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests
Performs organic chemical conversion and paint preparation
Applies organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements
Works on complex components and systems using established drawings and requirements
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
High School Diploma or equivalent
3+ years’ experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
Experience following manufacturing disciplines on spaceflight or aircraft systems (General Fabrication or Orbital welding)
Experience operating an automated welding machine that welds a variety of metals
Experience with safety process and/or procedures in a manufacturing or operations environment
Experience in Structural assembly with an emphasis on match drilling aluminum, titanium, and composite materials
Able to work any shift based on the needs of the operation
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience with orbital tube welding
Experience working on a NASA Program
Training/education from an accredited welding institute/training center
Experience in installation and handling of tubes, valves, fittings
Experience in a clean room environment
Work Location:
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility
Travel:
Position may require travel up to 10% of the time.

Summary pay range: USD $57,800 – $78,200
