The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Technical Software Engineer to join the Boeing Global Service (BGS) Training Solutions organization in Seattle, WA.
This role leads to technical delivery, architecture, and operational excellence for a portfolio of cloud-native data and analytics products that support training and services. The responsible engineer will lead with a strong software and data engineering background. The candidate will prioritize and manage technical debt and long-term maintainability work alongside feature delivery to ensure platform health. Additionally, the candidate will establish incident response practices, SLAs/SLOs/SLIs, runbooks, and blameless postmortems (RCAs) to improve reliability and learning. The senior engineer will evaluate and manage third-party/vendor tools and open-source dependencies, considering cost, support, and licensing risk.
They will drive cross-functional alignment with Product, QA, UX, Security, and Support to deliver customer value effectively. Engaging with business stakeholders and senior leadership, the candidate will ensure that software architecture aligns with current and future business needs while assessing workforce skill gaps and creating targeted onboarding and upskilling plans. Furthermore, the engineer will support release management, pipeline design, artifact promotion, and rollback strategies for production platforms, promoting operational excellence through incident response, disaster recovery/backup planning, cost management, and capacity planning. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Position Responsibilities:
Oversee the successful execution of all technical aspects of software and data platform projects across a portfolio, ensuring delivery quality, timeliness, and alignment with product goals
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for status updates and decisions; collect progress updates, track milestones and deliverables, and proactively identify and mitigate risks and issues.
Use technical expertise and leadership to remove roadblocks, enable teams, mentor engineers, and ensure timely, high‑quality software delivery
Make well‑informed technical choices across the software lifecycle, evaluating and selecting technologies, frameworks, and methodologies that balance scalability, performance, cost, and supportability
Collaborate with Product Owners and Product Managers to assess feasibility and trade‑offs for functional and non‑functional requirements
Own the technical roadmap for the portfolio and ensure alignment with product roadmaps; partner with Software and Solution Architects to develop and maintain product‑level architecture and roadmaps
Define, publish, and communicate product architecture best practices and standards to maintain consistency and quality across teams
Foster collaboration and alignment with Solution Architects to meet enterprise requirements, governance, and security standards.
Champion technical innovation by leading proofs of concept, evaluating new approaches, and articulating a long‑term architectural vision
Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes: development standards, code quality, test coverage, security practices, documentation, and DevOps maturity
Define and track engineering and product KPIs (e.g., cycle time, MTTR, test coverage) and report progress to stakeholders regularly
Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):
9+ years of experience with Data Engineering and/or Software Development
9+ years of experience automating and troubleshooting application deployments using CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps Tool Suites along with Azure Pipelines and Portal)
9+ years of experience with the following tools and technologies: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Nifi, Relational SQL or NoSQL databases
5+ years of Technical leadership experience guiding development teams to cloud
Experience with these tools; PowerBI, Azure DevOps, SaaS, Data Integration tools - Azure Databrick & Data Factory
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering or equivalent
Microsoft Azure Certifications (Fundamentals, Architect, DevOps etc.)
Expertise in distributed computing architectures using service bus, and/or related technologies (XML, SOAP, REST, JSON, etc.)
Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (Azure provider), ARM templates, or Bicep
Experience with streaming and messaging (Event Hubs, Service Bus) and orchestration via Data Factory
Working knowledge of containerization and orchestration fundamentals (Docker, AKS, ACR)
Familiarity with observability and SRE practices using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights; ability to define SLAs/SLOs/SLIs and runbook procedures
Strong software engineering skills in Python and/or Java, including testing practices, code reviews, and authoring design documentation
Experience evaluating and managing third‑party tooling, licensing, and open‑source risk
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with cross‑team collaboration experience
Experience with data governance and metadata tools such as Unity Catalog, Purview, or Alation
Experience in cloud cost optimization, capacity planning, and platform scaling
Prior experience in regulated or safety‑critical industries (aerospace, defense, transportation) is a plus
Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Databricks, CKA) are advantageous
Experience with Synapse advanced analytics workloads, ML model operationalization, or real‑time analytics use cases
Leadership Skills:
Proven experience leading technical teams and driving cross‑team architectural direction across a portfolio
Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to make sound architectural decisions under pressure
Excellent communication, able to articulate complex technical concepts to executive and non‑technical stakeholders
Ability to mentor and inspire team members, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement
Non‑Technical Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Business acumen to align technical decisions with business objectives
Familiarity with Agile, iterative, and scaled frameworks (e.g., SAFe)
Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements

Summary pay range for Lead Level: $156,400 - $211,600
