Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for a Data Platform Chief Engineer to join our growing Data Analytics Engineering & Integration team in Ridley Park, PA; Seattle, WA; Arlington, VA; or Hazelwood, MO. This team is tasked with transforming the way BDS data is sourced, managed, and utilized to unlock insights that drive business growth and optimization. The team supports data needs for internal stakeholders across BDS business programs and functions and is focused on utilizing data to inform and improve the full lifecycle of BDS products.
In this role, you will be a thought leader in designing, implementing, managing, and scaling data pipelines in support of the BDS Data Analytics Platform. You will leverage modern cloud architecture design, hybrid cloud technologies, data migration technologies, and more to craft and deploy data pipelines in a cloud infrastructure.
This role requires a resourceful, self-driven, outcome-oriented individual with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to partner, execute, and communicate skillfully while solving complex problems in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will have experience with large-scale data platforms, cloud computing, hybrid clouds, software development, and requirements management.
Position Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of architecture strategy, implementation, operation, and process for the BDS Data Platform.
Advocate and define cloud architecture vision, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems.
Engage and partner with senior technical leadership to help shape and align the technology strategy for the Data Analytics Platform.
Lead the development of plans, roadmaps, schedules, and budgets for the build-out and maturation of the global data platform.
Manage progress to plan, risks, and opportunities with team members, program leadership, stakeholders, and customers.
Establish architecture standards, best practices, and operational principles to govern platform and capability development.
Develop and maintain metrics and measures of platform performance, including security, reliability, availability, portability, and scalability. Create plans to improve key performance metrics and communicate these plans with program leadership and stakeholders.
Partner with operations and deployment teams to ensure smooth execution and delivery of data solutions and services.
Lead a team of solution architects collaborating with business development, capability development, and deployment teams to craft purpose-fit end-to-end solution architectures aligned with the technology strategy.
Foster an open, inclusive, and innovative team culture, focusing on stakeholder satisfaction, efficiency, and flawless execution in operational and service level agreements.
Assess the business impact of technical choices and direct the identification and recommendation of appropriate solutions, upgrades, replacements, or decommissioning options, incorporating business and technology productivity, usability, and total cost of ownership.
Coach, mentor, and provide developmental opportunities to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Technical Bachelor's degree
10+ years of experience leading architecture, technology, or software development teams.
5+ years of experience leading the development of solution architecture for large, complex software projects.
High-level end-to-end understanding of software design, development, testing, deployment, and delivery.
5+ years of experience developing project plans, schedules, and budgets.
Proven ability to provide thought leadership across business and technical project dimensions, solving complex business requirements.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with senior leadership and technical team members.
Ability to recruit, train, and lead team members to reach their potential.
Effective interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style, including teamwork and team-building ability.
Flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Extensive experience with AWS.
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, AWS CloudFormation).
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional).

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range:
$180,200 - $261,050
