Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for a Laser Tracker Operator (Associate, Mid-Level, Senior) (Level 2, 3, or 4) to join our Computer Aided Metrology (CAMs) team in New Orleans, Louisiana.
As a part of the CAMs team, you will be responsible for the measurement and qualification of flight articles, tooling, and movement in the factory. You will work with Numerical Control (NC) programmers and machinists on compensations for hardware to meet drawing specifications. The CAMs team supports all areas throughout the factory which requires the ability to develop measurement plans as the area customer presents an issue or requirement. You will work with production as well as the critical lift and move team for placement of hardware and tooling to support critical mating operations.
Position Responsibilities:
Assists in numerous tasks related to metrology measurements and analysis, including research and data collection to support cross functional teams and production, establishing technical requirements for metrology measurements, and planning the integration of new metrology techniques and measurement methods, processes, software and equipment.
Produces accurate and repeatable measurement of production vehicles, parts and tools per the supplied documentation.
Ability to learn about and utilize laser trackers, laser radars, photogrammetry systems, and other portable coordinate metrology equipment.
Ability to understand 3D metrology datasets, their measurement uncertainty, and identify trends in the collected data.
Experience using Spatial Analyzer for metrology data analysis.
Follow shop 5S and housekeeping practices to maintain a clean and organized desk area and production environment.
Apply knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to understand relationships between parts and derive tolerances to validate through measured data.
Collaborate and work productively with a variety of internal customers to understand their needs and constraints.
Ability to work independently or as a member of the team as situations required.
Collect geometric data via laser tracker through model-based software such as Spatial Analyzer.
Discern how best to establish a reference system for the current task then apply it and install it both on and off the part.
Provide analysis of collected data and evaluate it to provide direction for remaining operations.
Integrate process monitoring with the fabrication process to locate both welding details and machining details.
Understand and apply the fabrication process and environmental effects on large structures such as free states, temperature swings, and weld shrinkage.
Effectively communicate to fabricators, machinists, assemblers, engineers, and other parties as required.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
Ability to read blueprints with understanding of Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Ability to work on your own with minimal supervision
1+ years of experience with Coordinate Measuring Systems such as Laser Trackers
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Two-year degree (Associate or Technical)
years of experience with Spatial Analyzer Software
Experience analyzing data and generating data reports
Experience with Leica laser trackers
Solid understanding of geometric relationships
Understanding of the manufacturing process of large structures from concept to completion
Strong mechanical aptitude
Ability to visualize 3D space and integrate complex geometries into both large and small fabrications
Ability to use and learn a variety of software to observe, analyze, evaluate, and communicate pertinent information
Ability to adapt to an extremely dynamic work environment while maintaining a positive attitude
Ability to find solutions to problems through diverse thinking while utilizing a varied experience

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Associate (Level 2) Summary pay range: $56,000-$100,000
Mid-Level (Level 3) Summary pay range: $68,000 - $120,400
Senior (Level 4) Summary pay range: $81,000 -$144,000
