The Boeing Integrated Design Engineering Organization is seeking a highly motivated Senior Solar Array Chief Engineer to join the Space Mission Systems Satellite Engineering Team at El Segundo, CA.
This candidate will be a part of a high-performing engineering team that is immersed in development and high non-recurring projects. The candidate will be accountable to oversee all design and analysis aspects of solar array technologies, while partnering with SEIT on requirements definition and Operations and Suppliers on product delivery/build/test/integration execution. This candidate will need to work closely with executive functional and program leadership, program and product chief engineers, and the product team members to develop the overall technology roadmap for Solar Array, provide oversight and guidance to resolve all complex technical issues, and mentor engineers. This role will include accountability for all Satellite Solar Array technologies supporting Government and Commercial Satellites with some additional support across other space applications. The candidate should have extensive experience working with Solar Array technologies (substrates, cells, panels, integration, system requirements, etc.). The candidate must exemplify the Boeing Behaviors in day-to-day operations.
Primary responsibilities:
Develop and Define Solar Array Design and Analysis requirements while partnering closely with other engineering groups, manufacturing, operations, procurement, suppliers, customers, and program personnel to qualify, deliver, and launch solar array technologies
Responsible for overseeing and provide guidance for all solar array technical issues. Work closely to ensure proper RCCA methodologies implemented, and critical issues actively communicated to executive leadership, program leaders, customers, and partnering chief engineers
Engage in new business campaigns, reviewing bid models and providing technical input for appropriate technology insertions
Work with Integrated Design Engineering Chief Engineer to support and lead recurring Corrective Action Board efforts
Partner with Solar Array TLEs and functional management to provide technical guidance, conduct technical reviews, and approve engineering releases
Work closely with program leadership and chief engineering to communicate critical issues and status to customers as appropriate
Provide guidance and mentorship to fellow engineers
Contribute to supplier development, test and production activities to optimize the design and achieve program goals
Identify lean opportunities and support in implementation of cost/schedule savings initiatives as appropriate
Provide onsite technical troubleshooting support when appropriate
Partner with Engineering, Common Products, Operations, and Functional Leadership in EAC definition and reviews
Lead project planning and ensure execution on program commitments
Evaluate test data to validate components and systems against design requirements and objectives
Develop new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort. Lead development of emerging technologies/concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. citizenship
7+ years of experience with Solar Array Engineering
Experience with industry standards and regulatory requirements
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Engineering or related field
Experiences with solar cell, substrate, wiring, and/or solar array subsystems
Knowledge of aerospace industry standards and practices
Ability to mentor and train junior engineers
Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment and lead across multiple engineering/non-engineering disciplines
Experience with delivering on program commitments – technical, cost, schedule and risk management
Strong communication skills to interface with different program and customer teams
Strong familiarity with RCCAs

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range for Senior: $165,750.00 - $224,250.00
