The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Electrical Materials & Process Engineer - Failure Analysis (Associate or Mid-Level) to support Boeing Defense, Space & Security Materials & Process Technology team, located in El Segundo, CA.
The El Segundo site designs and builds advanced space and communication systems for military, commercial, and scientific uses, including advanced digital payload, all electric propulsion and 3D manufacturing capabilities for spacecraft that can operate in the geosynchronous, medium-Earth orbit, or low Earth orbital planes.
The Materials and Process Technology Group in El Segundo develops, provides and maintains technical competency and integrity in the definition, evaluation, analysis, management, selection and control of materials, processes, and parts. In this role, you will be working in a state-of-the-art laboratory to analyze electronic assemblies for product validation and failure analysis.
The ideal candidate has a background with materials science or electrical engineering and experience with root cause investigations on failed electronic parts.
Position Responsibilities:
Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products.
Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes.
Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
Promotes standardization across business activities.
Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs.
Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements.
Integrates new technologies as appropriate.
Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.
Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes.
Implements corrective and preventive actions.
Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements.
Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements.
Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret/SCI clearance Post-Start is required.
Experience working in a laboratory environment
Experience with electrical characterization of electronic components (e.g. semiconductor)
Experience with destructive and non-destructive evaluation of electronics (work with optical microscopes, electron microscopes, cross-sectioning, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Master’s or Doctorate in electrical engineering, materials engineering or physics
Experience with semiconductor technology and wafer/die fabrication and multilayer deprocessing.
Experience performing electronic failure investigations and/or fault isolation.
Experience with electronic parts testing
Experience with thermal or photo emission, OBIRCH/XIVA, EBIC, Nanoprober, CSAM or similar.
Experience with materials identification, analysis, or characterization
Experience with the implementation of new laboratory equipment and developing training materials or providing hands-on training to others
Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas.
Technical report writing and presentation experience
Active TS/SCI security clearance

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range Associate Level: $82,450 - $111,500
Summary pay range for Mid-Level: $102,000 - $138,000
