We are seeking a Systems Engineer (Systems Architecture and Defense) in Long Beach, California. This is a senior level position in the C-17 Avionics & Flight Controls (AVFC) organization to lead critical system design and development activities in support of a new development program starting in December 2025. This position reports to the manager of Development & Integration for the AVFC organization. A key attribute of this position is the ability to provide technical leadership for planning, designing, developing, and verifying highly-complex lifecycle system solutions. Additionally, this position leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. This position includes the ability to obtain extensive knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various engineering departments/disciplines, the interaction between departments/disciplines, and how their products/processes affect one another in order to drive successful outcomes of the projects this role is directing. This position must apply extensive knowledge of budget management principles and practices in managing projects, and is highly skilled in applying Agile development methods to achieve successful project execution.
Position Responsibilities:
A successful candidate will possess a wide range of project management, engineering, organizational, and communication skills.
This includes the ability to build a successful team, integrate into the business environment, and plan/organize in alignment with the AVFC organization’s strategic goals.
It also includes the skill to interact with customers at all levels, actively seeking information to understand customers' circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs.
The selected candidate will direct and manage complex project schedules requiring interface with internal/external organizations and suppliers.
The candidate will have a solid knowledge of Agile methods/concepts and will adapt and optimize application of Agile concepts on projects within the AVFC organization.
The selected candidate will have extensive and specialized ability to identify and resolve project related issues and provide solutions and/or recommendations to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or similar.
20 years of experience in Avionics Development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in engineering

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $186,150 - $251,850
