Responsible for the design and development of all existing and new mechanical Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the C-17 Globemaster Aircraft. Capable of leading multiple design reviews, providing guidance and adding technical input at various steps throughout the design process, reviewing layouts, stress reports and drawings to ensure engineering excellent and high-quality product for GSE designs. Design and develop new mechanical GSE for new maintenance requirements, airplane changes and customers’ requests. GSE design focal for aircraft engineering systems and design integration with discipline application of GSE specifications and contract requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
Directs the development and documentation of large scale, complex mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system maintenance, test, calibration, removal and replacement support equipment designs.
Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements and contract specifications.
Serves as technical consultant for disposition, corrective actions and coordination with cross-functional groups to identify/implement solutions and drive strategic improvements relative to production processes.
Coaches and mentors’ others.
Works under consultative direction.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the Long Beach, CA facility.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
Capable of leading multiple design reviews, providing guidance and adding technical input at various steps throughout the design process, reviewing layouts, stress reports and drawings to ensure engineering excellent and high-quality product for GSE designs.
Design and develop new mechanical GSE for new maintenance requirements, airplane changes and customers’ requests.
GSE design focal for aircraft engineering systems and design integration with discipline application of GSE specifications and contract requirements.
Seasoned experience with 3-D CAD Modeling packages: CATIA, ENOVIA with prior C-17, NX, Teamcenter experience preferred.
Monitoring project budgets and timelines, ensuring that design activities are completed on schedule and within budget.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautics/Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Master of Science Degree in Aeronautics/Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
Familiarity with Boeing large military aircraft
Knowledge of mechanical systems and working with external suppliers
Self-motivated with a positive attitude and good communication skills
Collaboration skills and innovative thinking
Ability to seek guidance and expertise from various Subject Matter Experts (SME's) when appropriate
Ability to work with multiple team functions
Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience, 13 years' related work experience, etc.)

Summary pay range: 146,200 – 197,800
