Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for an Associate or Mid-Level Data/Hardware Analyst Engineer (Level 2 or 3) to join our exclusive team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We are looking for a highly skilled individual with experience in design, simulation, modeling, and controls. The selected candidate will support the data analysis, hardware, and software development of electro-optical systems. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to advancements in technology using cutting-edge equipment at a historically significant site.
This position supports the R&D mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities. The site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the supporting the development, optimization, and maintenance of hardware solutions, data analysis products and image/signal algorithm development.

Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, quantum systems to achieve research objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
Good understanding of optical systems to include design, integration, and testing of systems (Types of systems include large telescopes, laser systems, imaging systems and atmospheric control systems). Analysis of these systems includes applications related to interferometry, thermal and structural analysis, and applications of both geometric and physical optics to these systems.
Design and analysis of laboratory experiments to prove scaled concepts of operational systems.
System improvements through iterative design of hardware and software systems.
Image and signal algorithm development for resolved and unresolved image processing; including image correction and enhancement techniques and low signal object detection and tracking with emphasis on design and implementation of precision image tracking algorithms.
Analysis, modeling, and interpretation of tracking systems and data.
Model development of complex optics and optical systems.
Evaluation and verification of optical systems performance and design.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
2+ years of experience with Matlab, Ansys, Python, C, or C++
2+ years of experience in mathematical and numerical methods
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact and present technical material to internal leadership and customers
Must be willing to work variable shifts; including day, evening, night, and weekends
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance
Experience with time and frequency domain analysis techniques
Experience with optical system design principles
Experience with the integration and analysis of visible and infrared imaging sensor systems
Experience with the analysis, design and integration of thermal management systems and hardware
Some experience in mechanical structural design principles and material properties
Operational familiarity with various laboratory electronic equipment: Oscilloscopes, Power Supplies, Spectrum Analyzers, etc.
Familiarity with design and integration properties of laser systems

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Associate (Level 2) Summary pay range: $79,900 – $108,100
Mid-Level (Level 3) Summary pay range: $97,750 – $132,250
