Job Description
The Boeing Company is seeking a P993-RC - Q/R Processing Mechanic. This classification requires the surface treatment of metals by processes such as cleaning, pickling, etching, conversion coating, passivating, degreasing, sandblasting, stripping, buffing, polishing, and inspecting finish coatings. Inspect any formed parts and assemblies inspected with precision measuring instruments and gauges. Inspect compound angles, compound and reverse contours, and precision tolerance coordinated dimensions, with or without standard, experimental, or developmental templates. May prepare, layout, and spray application of coating materials and protective applications. Heat treat of ferrous and nonferrous Harden, temper, normalize, anneal, stress release, age, and carburize materials, preparation, layout, spray application of coating materials, and final finish applications to parts, fabricating, assembling, mating, modifying, rebuilding, reworking, repairing, and testing of hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, electromechanical, and hydro- mechanical assemblies. Accomplish product verification to assure compliance with company and customers' specifications along with assisting Process Engineering in developing specifications for various applications of operations.
Position Responsibilities:
Work from fabrication orders, blueprints, sketches, production illustrations, engineering, quality, and process specifications, verbal or written instructions, or shop practices. Plan to determine amount of buildup necessary and surfaces to be marked. Assure clearance of all work operations prior to subsequent identification operations, test procedures, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine allowable tolerances, test equipment requirements, and sequence of operations to perform hydrostatic testing. Select or improvise and adapt tooling and test equipment for assigned projects with experimental tooling, and prototype or production parts, assemblies, and materials. Utilize gas and electric furnaces, dryers, quench tanks, and various gases under controlled atmospheric conditions.
Perform and operate control panels related to plating, alodining, anodizing, chrome, electrolytic nickel, zinc, cadmium, and copper plating processes of sheet metal or machined parts to exacting dimensional requirements. Check solution for concentration and temperature, voltage and amperage, and select abrasives to remove foreign matter. Tend, check, change, and/or replenish solutions in processing tanks. Process test coupons, perform regulatory daily maintenance records, provide status, maintain process line system, and perform required maintenance. Perform such heat treat operations as furnace brazing, flame hardening, annealing, normalizing, stress relieving, cold cycling, drawing carburizing, ageing, case and surface hardening, tempering, and precipitation hardening of ferrous and nonferrous parts, assemblies, and materials, load, unload, clean, and operate various types of heat treat, paint, and test equipment.
Perform assembly operations of parts, subassemblies, and assemblies, fit and lap details such as seals, seats, spacer bushings, bearings, and inserts; cut, install, identify hoses, and tubing details, sealing, bonding, and final test of metallic and non-metallic assemblies. Prepare, mix adhesives, resin, and impregnating materials; clean, prepare molds, and apply parting agents. Layout, fabricate, fit, and install details such as seals, back up plates, bleeder cloth, honeycomb, brackets, and angles to complete the assembly for final test.

Determine dimensions, finishes or finish coatings, processes, methods of inspection; use precision measuring instruments, gauges, tools, and set-ups required for checking intricate experimental, developmental, first run production parts, detail parts, and weldments. Recommend changes in sequence, setup, and/or tooling. Establish dimensions, locations, and methods required to layout, fit, and assemble components and sub-assemblies. Set up and operate hydraulic, pneumatic, gas, and electronic test equipment. Connect assemblies to the test equipment and perform functional test operations. Determines sequence, type, color, or coating of operations and apply materials such as ablative, ceramic, heat shielding, or chemical resistant coatings to completed assemblies. Determine method and sequence of fabricating, assembling, and testing mechanical and hydraulic assemblies.
Setup and operate testing equipment to accomplish complete verification checks of completed units including any incidental electrical operations. Assemble and mate structural parts and assemblies where tolerances require precise hand locating and positioning of parts. Set up and operate various upholstery and sewing machines to install proper needles, threads, bobbins, adjust length of stitch, and tension for materials being assembled along with various machines to attach grommets, eyelets, snap fasteners, buttons, and lay-out, cut, and assemble parts. Fabricate insulation blankets, trim panels, seat pads, engine covers, carpets, boots, duct, tube, cockpit covers, insulation, soundproofing panels, with related furnishings and fittings.
Check all heat treat and auxiliary equipment for proper functioning for making periodic inspections, Verify with hardness check test that flaws are detected resulting from heat-treat operations. Inspect first run production parts, detail parts, or weldments using precision measuring instruments, gauges, and surface table setups where experimental or developmental templates, jigs, fixtures, and aids are used as subsidiary tools. Apply appropriate identification stamp to all types of parts and assemblies. Prepare rejection tags noting deviations from specifications on dimensions, finishes, material, processes, or quality. Make free hand layouts and develop original templates and patterns for customers' emblems and markings. Locates and applies decals; lays out areas to be painted, color breaks, insignia, and striping by the use of templates. Clean and package fuel, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electrical parts and assemblies of cryogenic, hydraulic, oxygen, and fuel specifications to maintain customer requirements.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Huntington Beach, CA.
