 The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Architect to support our Intelligence Systems Mission Systems team in Herndon, VA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization. 

 

The selected candidate will oversee the design, implementation, and integration activities for a software modernization effort. The ideal candidate will lead project teams, provide technical oversight, delegate tasks effectively, and collaborate with the engineering organization to establish technology roadmaps, adhere to best practices, and foster innovation. 

 

In this role, you will engage with internal Integrated Product Teams, government personnel, program managers, and external stakeholders to design software architecture and implement coding solutions in compliance with Boeing standards and program requirements. Additionally, you will provide guidance, coaching, mentoring, and training to software employees supporting the program. 

 

Position Responsibilities:

• Interfaces with Program Manager, Chief Engineer, customer, sponsor and other stakeholder technical leads to present and communicate software architecture decisions
• Performs analysis of customer and system requirements and development of architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various subsystems and software products
• Ensures software plans and scheduling align with program expectations and submit risks within the program risk management system for potential impacts and mitigation
• Reviews software designs and code implementations from team members for conformance to program requirements and architecture vision
• Be accountable for software product deliveries and milestones ensuring quality in all steps of the process
• Coaches’ junior engineers on Boeing software development best practices
• Identifies and communicates opportunities for improved efficiencies and/or technical improvements to the product
• Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and quality conformance of the software end items
• Ability to take projects from beginning to end with little direct supervision
• Teamwork and coordination skills with ability to create clarity from ambiguity

 

Security Clearance:

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• Bachelors degree or higher

• 10+ years’ experience designing and developing software using Python, C/C++, C# and/or Java
• 5+ years’ experience in developing Linux and/or Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) software
• 5+ years’ experience leading software teams and/or projects
• 5+ years’ experience with domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches
• 1+ years’ experience with network architectures and software applications that communicate through TCP/UDP based networks

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 18+ years of directly related work experience OR 22+ years of related, relevant experience      
• Experience in continuous software upgrades and technology refreshes as components reach EOL (End-of-Life)
• Experience with the ROS2 middleware framework
• Experience with continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) practices
• Experience with Docker container technology and Kubernetes Container Service (KCS)
• Experience using DevOps tool chain and team collaboration tools including GitLab, JIRA, Jenkins and/or Artifactory etc.
• Knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle

Work Location:

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

 

Travel:

Position may require travel up to 10% of the time.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

 

 

Summary pay range: USD $211,650 - $286,350
