We are currently seeking an experienced Trade Control Specialist to join our dynamic and experienced Global Trade Control (GTC) team, focused on defence operations in the UK – but part of a larger group covering Europe and wider regions.
The candidate should have a good foundation of UK and US export control regulations, but also experience of practical application. Adaptable communication skills (both written and verbal) are highly essential components whereby complex legislation and the associated requirements need to be effectively communicated to those who either have or do not have the expertise in the legislation. This position is based in the Bristol Office with Hybrid working available.
The GTC team operate a supportive environment, collaborating to meet programme deadlines and open to input, valuing diverse perspectives to ensure continuous improvement.
Boeing’s defence business operates many programmes, supports both DCS and FMS arrangements across multiple sites and acts as importer and exporter of record.
Position Responsibilities:
- Analyse, interpret, maintain or implement the infrastructure for US ITAR/EAR extra-territoriality controls, as well as UK trade control requirements across programme(s), projects and functional support teams, meeting both customer and compliance requirements.
- Partnering with GTC in the US to ensure trade control authorities and corporate guidelines are a critical component of the entity processes, embedding them into the culture in relation to daily operations, scheduling, contractual changes, people management and record keeping.
- Enabling the programme(s) to identify and understand the implications and responsibilities to execute operations compliantly and maintain a level of oversight. It is important to have people skills, understand programme objectives and build good relationships.
- Defining requirements with programme(s) to develop authorisations and a licensing compliance strategy and infrastructure, in coordination with GTC US Trade focals.
- Managing UK export licenses and collaborate with security for MOD approvals required for licences.
- Operating within complex compliance infrastructures where US, non-US exports, imports, FMS and/or DCS, and customs matters are part of our processes.
- Assisting with the interpretation and communication of existing and new regulations that might impact programme activity. Managing authorisations, ensuring supporting documents and approvals are all in compliance and necessary records maintained.
- Supporting internal and external assessments and / or audits, implementing corrective actions, tracking and monitoring close out.
- Assessing risk and assisting in resolving daily issues as they arise. Be pro-active in looking for improvement opportunities and driving mitigation plans.
- Generating reports, metrics and procedure updates, as needed.
- Deliver and/or develop trainings and briefings to the business
- Any other trade control duties that may be assigned
Desired Skills:
- Confident and can provide guidance on regulatory matters, create and maintain a culture where GTC processes are considered and reviewed within the business.
- Experienced. Only candidates with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience of UK and US Regulations should apply.
- Knowledge of UK HMRC regulations for importing and exporting, as well as awareness of AUKUS, would be beneficial.
- Inspired by ongoing development as trade laws continuously change.
- Self-motivated and self-reflective, who can work well within a team, but can also work independently, when required.
- Focused on prioritisation, close out of action items and keen to look for continuous improvements, is able to speak up, but also a good listener.
The management style within GTC in region, is all about empowerment, coaching, and embracing inclusive perspectives but also to enable training, with a high focus on personal development.
Education and Experience:
- Demonstrated Trade Control expertise and practical experience of managing compliance to regulatory requirements of UK export controls, US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
- It would be a benefit to have experience and knowledge on FMS contracting requirements, as well as UK HMRC regulations for importing and exporting, Customs Declaration Service Systems, Sanctions, and any others relevant to the industry
- Proficient with trade compliance tools and software (to include experience of SAP GTS) would be an asset.
- Technical degree or equivalent experience would be an asset, please provide information as to education/courses specific to UK and US legislation.

- Ability to hold an SC clearance
- Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor's degree or higher) and work experience in relevant fields such as Legal, Policy, Supply Chain Management, Political Science or similar will also be considered.
