Position overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Subcontracts Specialist to lead the full lifecycle development, negotiation and management of complex subcontract agreements. This role will drive supplier relationship management, mitigate commercial and regulatory risk, and support Australian Industry Capability (AIC) and sovereign capability objectives. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with senior leaders, program managers and technical stakeholders to deliver high-value outcomes while protecting Boeing's commercial interests.
Key responsibilities
- Lead pre-award sourcing, market engagement, tender evaluation, award and negotiations for complex, high-risk subcontracts.
- Manage post-award subcontract execution, performance management and contract administration through the full contract lifecycle.
- Conduct expert interpretation of complex subcontract terms, identify gaps and negotiate amendments to protect commercial interests.
- Develop and apply governance frameworks, structured risk assessments, mitigation plans and performance measures.
- Drive supplier relationship management (SRM) to ensure supplier performance, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Identify supply chain capability gaps and develop strategies to ensure readiness and meet business needs.
- Lead cross-functional risk and contract reviews with senior leaders, program managers and technical stakeholders.
- Support AIC and sovereign capability objectives through long-term supplier strategy and engagement.
- Provide commercial advice, coaching and training materials on SM&P policies, procedures and contractual matters.
- Mentor and develop Subcontracts Specialists and act as the primary contractual contact for assigned suppliers.
Qualifications & experience
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in law, business or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in high-value contract/subcontract management and procurement administration.
- Proven ability to lead complex, high-risk procurement activities and manage multiple contracts to deadlines.
- Strong negotiation skills and expert commercial contract interpretation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- High level interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and long-term supplier relationships.
- Strong business acumen, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, accurately and under pressure; strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Understanding of budgets, cost control and financial performance management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and common procurement tools.
- Eligibility for an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Defence contracting policies and procedures.
- Experience in category / commodity management.
- Strong commercial acumen and procurement capability with demonstrated innovation in solutions.
