The Boeing Company is looking for a Tactical Software Engineering Manager to join the Air Dominance team located in the Berkeley, MO.
We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager with experience in Mission Systems software development. You will lead and manage a team of Software Engineers responsible for overseeing the design, development, and integration of embedded software solutions for mission critical software. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership attributes, excellent communication skills and a solid technical foundation with experience in open architectures and tactical mission systems including advanced sensors.
The role will also require close collaboration with other cross functional Mission Systems teams, hardware/firmware suppliers and other engineering and support teams to ensure timely creation and delivery of high-quality software solutions. Responsibilities will also include creating project plans, establishing goals, tracking and managing agile team metrics, and providing technical oversight on team activities. You will be expected to build strong and meaningful relationships and partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders and take ownership of escalated issues and guide and assist the team to help resolve them within a timely manner. You will be responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, leading process improvements, and employee development initiatives. You will support and present at Program Management Reviews, Technical Reviews, and Program milestones, necessitating strong communication and presentation skills. You will also be expected to foster a culture of innovation and collaborate with other functional areas to set both internal and customer-facing policies that balance customer and organizational needs.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a diverse team of embedded software engineers performing engineering and technical activities
- Proactively assess and manage software staffing needs; create a healthy talent and skill pipeline to meet project resource timelines
- Drive technical planning and execution, including analyzing and responding to team agile metrics, Earned Value Management (EVM) duties to ensure the team consistently meets or exceeds planned cost, schedule, technical performance, safety, and quality targets
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, hardware engineering, quality assurance, coworkers, customers, and suppliers to ensure seamless integration of software components, meet all requirements, and efficient and accurate communication throughout the project lifecycle
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining composure and professionalism in stressful situations, with a strong sense of cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Provide guidance and direction to team members to ensure adherence to Software Engineering Design Practices, Independent Verification & Validation, and other engineering excellence initiatives
- Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and professional growth within the team
- Integrate modern development methodologies and DevSecOps principles to ensure robust software development practices that enhance security, quality, and efficiency throughout the software lifecycle
- Engage with stakeholders, suppliers, including customers and regulatory bodies, to communicate project status, address concerns, and ensure alignment with program objectives
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Active Secret Security Clearance
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance (post-start) and ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only
- 3+ years of experience in engineering management or technical management
- 3+ years of exposure to Agile development methodologies including planning activities, incremental development processes and collaboration techniques.
- 5+ years of experience working with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering or experience typically acquired through advanced technical education
- Background in Mission Systems engineering development activities
- Proficiency with DevSecOps and modern Software Development practices
- Strong communication skills and a natural leadership style that inspires action, motivates excellence, and fosters innovation, while effectively interfacing with senior leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and deliver results on time and within budget
- Previous experience in an engineering management and/or team lead position

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range: $154,700 - $209,300
