Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Airframe Structural Integrity Architect to join our team in Hazelwood, MO.
The engineer in this role will own the planning and implementation of the structural analysis, simulation, and building block test activities on a BDS Air Dominance proprietary air vehicle program in accordance with customer requirements and Boeing criteria. In collaboration with program teammates, colleagues from across the Boeing enterprise, and external customers the architect will have the opportunity to insert digital design and analysis advancements into the traditional structural airworthiness practices to ensure a robust and efficient process that leads to the successful verification and validation of a next generation airframe. The architect will be part of the technical leadership of the Structures IPT which is responsible for the structural definition, integration, and analysis of the air vehicle – including loads and dynamics and fatigue and fracture. This position will report directly to the Structures IPT Senior Manager.
Position Responsibilities:
Plan and organize the structural analysis work statement at the airframe level such that it complies with and delivers the artifacts necessary to support all structural integrity requirements pertaining to the airframe
Provide guidance and direction to other structural analysis Subject Matter Experts and Technical Lead Engineers to ensure alignment across multiple teams and sites with regard to structural analysis criteria, methods, and practices
Operate as the POC for both external customers and internal stakeholders that require technical information regarding the structural integrity plans and deliverables associated with the development, build, and testing of the airframe
Partner with a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team of engineers to apply Model-Based Systems Engineering best practices related to digital design, analysis, and verification & validation efforts related to the airframe
Contribute to the development of people, tools, and processes that advance the capabilities of the program, BDS Air Dominance, and the Boeing enterprise in the domain of air vehicle structural integrity
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil)
20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
Strong understanding of Airworthiness Certification processes (i.e. MIL-STD-516) and Aircraft Structural Integrity Program requirements (i.e. MIL-STD-1530)
Demonstrated expertise in the domains of fundamental structural analysis techniques of composite and metallic airframe components, vehicle and detail level Finite Element Analysis and simulation, and durability and damage tolerance principles
Prior exposure to structural test planning, execution, support, and data reduction
Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills including the ability to brief complicated technical subjects to stakeholders and customers
Proven ability to lead technical teams to consensus on complex engineering issues
This position requires the ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
This position requires the ability to obtain Special Program Access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter and Altair HyperWorks
Experience supporting maturation of airframe layouts and architecture using structural optimization tool such as Optistruct and/or HyperX
Familiarity with the development of air vehicle external and internal loads and air vehicle master event spectrums

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $188,700 - $255,300
