The Boeing Test Operations and Engineering team in Berkeley, Missouri is seeking Mechanical Design Engineers to join our Instrumentation Installation Design group supporting flight test programs.
In this team, a design engineer has the primary responsibility for the synthesis of requirements, creation of engineering definition, 3D models, 2D drawings, and model-based definition that define the mechanical hardware required to install a flight test data system. Flight test hardware is frequently located throughout the aircraft giving an employee a chance to get familiar with different areas of the platform.
Instrumentation installation designers work the entire design cycle including support of requirement definition, layouts, coordination with electrical designers, preliminary design review, engineering release, coordination with manufacturing engineers and suppliers, occasional shipside support, and change incorporation.
We are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Entry-Level, Associate or Experienced Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineers.
Position Responsibilities Include:
Incorporation of instrumentation into mechanical designs, including model-based wire routing
Design detailed mechanical components such as shelves, equipment trays, wiring clips, brackets, sensor mounts and specialized test mechanisms
Development of mechanical design criteria from customer test objectives/specifications
Support the development, maintenance or modification of system designs/proposals to provide design documentation and high-level requirements to downstream users/customers
Work closely with manufacturing engineers on producibility and procurement
Support the mod team during installation with engineering revisions and sometimes support shipside, whether that modification is along the assembly line in Saint Louis, a remote site in the US like an Air Force base, or even sometimes internationally
Support all the Saint Louis production programs (F-47, F-15, F/A-18, T-7A, MQ-25A, Weapons) and team members will work across those platforms
Support team in performing spatial integration at system or component level and modification of mechanisms/landing gear/ordinance systems
Assist in preparing technical documents for mechanical components and systems
Perform system tests to verify operational and functional requirements
Assist in monitoring suppliers' performance to ensure compliance with requirements
Support resolution of product integration issues and production anomalies
Research basic technologies for potential application to company business needs
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
Experience in Mechanical design
Experience with a design tool (CAD package) like Siemens NX, CATIA, etc.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Level 2: 2 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Level 3: 4 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Active U.S. Security Clearance in the past 24 months
Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
2+ years of experience in mechanical system design
1+ years of experience in test and evaluation
Knowledge of machine shop fabrication capabilities including conventional & CNC machining, drilling, lathe, fit/finish tools & processes, and inspection/check-out
Knowledge/familiarity with additive manufacturing processes & tools
Understanding of material properties and mechanical statics & dynamics (structural design)
Understanding of structural dynamics, fluid flow, and thermodynamics theory & application

Summary pay range Entry-Level 1: $71,400 - $96,600
Summary pay range Associate Level 2: $83,300 - $112,700
Summary pay range Experienced Level 3: $98,600 - $133,400
