The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer-Simulation (Level 5) to join the Flight Simulation | Labs team located in Berkeley, MO. Flight Simulation | Labs provides comprehensive simulation and laboratory solutions for the design, development, and deployment of Boeing Defense Systems products.
This position is for a Lead Software Developer on the Test Development Kit (TDK) project on the Flight Simulation Core Software team. TDK is a simulation architecture and toolset which comprises the core Modeling & Simulation infrastructure for multiple current and future generation Boeing defense platforms. The TDK product is critical to the success of the supported programs.
The TDK Lead Software Engineer will lead the design, architecture, and development of the TDK framework, models and tools to facilitate the testing and analysis needs of the programs. The Lead Software Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert on the TDK product and simulation in general, and as a customer facing technical expert for the Flight Simulation | Labs (FSL) TDK product and capabilities.
Position Responsibilities:
- Oversees the design, architecture, and development of simulation models, simulation visualizations, virtual environments/platforms and frameworks to enhance test performance, safety, and durability of software and hardware systems throughout the entire product lifecycle.
- Partners with stakeholders to advise on the review and identification of simulation requirements and dynamics of the systems being simulated.
- Oversees the design, modeling, simulation, testing, and analysis to assess and optimize overall system performance and capabilities.
- Reviews data collection and processing for use in simulations.
- Oversees validation, verification, and refinement of simulation software code, models, simulations, test procedures and test environments, executing test procedures, documenting test results and modeling against real-world data, test data, benchmarks, or other similar models.
- Reviews the documentation and maintenance of technical code, algorithms, specifications and descriptions of simulation models.
- Partners with cross functional engineering teams to advise on integration of simulation software with hardware devices and systems.
- Oversees implementing current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and methods in the software engineering simulation environment.
- Oversees modernizing, migrating, sustaining, and updating simulation software to adapt legacy systems to new operating systems.
- Oversees simulation software project management functions.
- Advises management and influences internal practices on a wide range of topics related to the software engineering simulation environments.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Security clearance (Post-Start)
- 10+ years of work-related experience with object oriented software development (C/C++, Java)
- 10+ years of work-related experience in embedded real-time software development
- 7+ years of experience with modeling and simulation
- 7+ years of experience with software requirements, software design, hardware software integration and testing
- Experience working with development and administration in Linux systems in virtualized environments (CentOS and RHEL is a plus)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 18+ years of directly related work experience OR 22+ years of related, relevant experience
- Active U.S Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship Required)
- Experience working on an Agile team using Agile methodologies and tools
- Strong coordination and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment

Travel: Some travel may be required up to 10% of the time.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range for Lead (Level 5): $198,050 - $267,950
Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
