Position Overview:
The Senior Manager – Training Solutions Software will lead all software engineering aspects of Training Solutions within the Application Software Organization under Boeing India Software Engineering (BISE). This role requires a versatile and exemplary leader with a strong track record of managing first-line managers and senior technical teams, accountable for multiple projects encompassing budgets, schedules, and performance.
The successful candidate will demonstrate high learning agility, strategic thinking, and the ability to engage effectively across all levels of Boeing globally to achieve optimal business outcomes. This role is critical in driving innovation, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction in aerospace training software solutions.
Position Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of first-line managers and senior individual contributors, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous learning, and inclusion.
- Champion Boeing’s values by promoting ethical behavior, safety, quality, and employee engagement to build a resilient and motivated workforce.
- Drive talent acquisition, retention, succession planning, and career development aligned with organizational goals.
- Provide ongoing coaching, counseling, and developmental feedback to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities.
- Make compensation recommendations related to hiring salaries and salary reviews, recognizing individual and team contributions to improve satisfaction and retention.
Strategic & Operational Execution
- Develop and execute software engineering organizational and technical strategies aligned with Training Solutions’ business objectives and Boeing’s broader vision.
- Manage organization-level budgets, schedules, and overall performance across multiple projects, ensuring flawless execution of engineering statements of work.
- Forecast resource needs, make hiring decisions, and optimize capacity and skill sets to meet evolving business demands.
- Assign authority and responsibilities to employees to execute plans effectively; monitor progress and resolve issues proactively.
- Collaborate closely with global stakeholders to plan, forecast, and deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Foster an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and promotes equitable opportunities for all team members.
Innovation & Process Excellence
- Lead and drive innovation initiatives to maintain competitive advantage and create growth opportunities.
- Promote and govern software engineering best practices, including agile methodologies, DevSecOps, and quality assurance.
- Champion the adoption of AI, machine learning, and other emerging technologies to exponentially increase software development productivity, efficiency, and quality using enterprise-approved tools.
- Provide direction and guidance to advance tools, processes, and procedures incorporating industry best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with stakeholders, leaders, peers, partners, and direct reports.
- Communicate organizational messages clearly and proactively to facilitate the accomplishment of workgroup, project, or process goals.
- Influence & collaborate effectively with global executives, managers, and cross-functional teams across multiple time zones and cultures.
Travel & Work Model
- This position requires occasional travel within India and internationally to collaborate with global teams and stakeholders.
- Hybrid work option available; onsite presence may be required based on business needs.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree is required as basic qualification.
- Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership.”
- Proven success in leading multiple technical software development teams, preferably within aerospace or related industries.
- Experience in aerospace systems/subsystems simulation and operations.
- Strong background in flight deck and airline operations.
- Experience in web application development and training simulation.
- Demonstrated leadership in AI adoption for software development, machine learning, and modeling.
- Skilled in managing teams developing training, simulation, and analytics applications.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills to help staff meet schedules and resolve technical or operational challenges.
- Exceptional team-building skills with the ability to achieve results through direct reports, colleagues, and partners.
- Deep experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated engineering leadership in a major aerospace organization; ability to communicate effectively with global executives, managers, and experts across engineering disciplines.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in people management roles.
- Strong knowledge of technologies, policies, and procedures related to engineering.
- Proven technical and project management leadership skills to ensure flawless execution of engineering statements of work.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders, including colleagues across Boeing and suppliers.
- Experience working successfully on virtual teams across multiple time zones and cultures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare comprehensive reports, proposals, and statements of work, connecting technology to business considerations such as ROI.
- Self-starter with a positive attitude, high ethics, and a track record of working successfully under pressure in time-constrained environments.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is preferred(Science or Engineering) but not required.
- Over 16 years of work experience in medium to large software engineering, aerospace, or aviation companies.
- At least 8 years of experience in people management roles.
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is desirable.
Typical Education & Experience:
- Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 16 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Master with 15+ years of work experience, etc.).
