Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Space Mission Systems (SMS) is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Advanced Electro-Optical Systems (AEOS) Engineering Department in Albuquerque, NM. The AEOS Engineering Department designs, builds, and operates state-of-the-art electro-optical systems including active Electro-Optical (EO) technologies for critical national security missions.
This Senior Engineering Manager will set the strategy, lead execution, and grow a high-performing, multidisciplinary team of 100+ engineers and managers. You will define the technical vision, develop people and processes, and ensure our programs deliver mission-ready systems on-time with first time quality. You’ll partner closely with customers, program leadership, senior technologists, and cross-functional Boeing teams (including Boeing Technology Innovation, Phantom Works, and core engineering capabilities).

Position Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a diverse team of engineers and first-line managers working across electro-optical systems, active EO technologies, sensors, algorithms, and integration/test.
- Set strategy and roadmaps for AEOS capabilities; translate mission needs into executable plans, budgets, and measurable outcomes.
- Establish and improve engineering processes, tools, and metrics that drive technical excellence, on-contract performance, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical oversight of architectures, designs, analyses, integration/test plans, and verification/validation activities.
- Build strong relationships with customers and stakeholders; represent AEOS in technical and program reviews and executive briefings.
- Acquire and allocate resources; ensure training, skills development, and readiness to execute statements of work.
- Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe culture where employees feel empowered to raise safety, quality, and schedule concerns early.
- Champion career growth, mentoring, succession planning, and talent pipelines; attract and retain top engineering talent.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- 5+ years of experience leading or managing an engineering project or team.
- Engineering product development experience.
- Demonstrated systems engineering experience.

- A systems-oriented leader with deep electro-optical domain knowledge and a track record of delivering complex hardware/software systems in a mission-driven environment.
- Skilled at building high-trust teams, developing leaders, and scaling organizations through clear goals, coaching, and data-informed decisions.
- Comfortable balancing strategic direction with hands-on technical oversight and rigorous program execution.
- Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.
- Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management, customers, and partners.
- Previous management experience.
- Ability to build a safe environment of inclusion, transparency, and trust.
- Leadership skills to lead and influence positive outcomes.
- Previous experience in leading, mentoring, and engaging individuals and teams.
- Experience providing active mentorship and career guidance.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $178,500 - $241,500
