Mechanical and Production Engineering Skill Stream Lead

The Mechanical and Production Engineering Skill Stream Lead is a core member of the BDA Central Engineering team with a focus on the support and technical development of the engineering workforce within the following skill areas
- Mechanical & Structural Engineering (6G) - covering BDA Engineering Skills and Areas of Practice required to develop and support the structural and mechanical aspects of products for air, space, ground and sea vehicles and systems. Including Mechanical Systems Design and Analysis, Structural and Payload Design, Structural and Payload Analysis and Integrity Management across the product lifecycle.
- Production Engineering(6H) - covering BDA Engineering Skills and Areas of Practice required to ensure the efficient and effective build, delivery, post-production, modification, and recovery of Boeing products and their supply chains. Including the influence of concepts and product definitions to ensure affordable, producible and sustainable products.
- Industrial Engineering(6N) - covers BDA Engineering Skills and Areas of Practice required to innovate, develop, evaluate and implement methods or systems in support of manufacturing processes, including production system design and operation.
- Manufacturing(DA) - covers BDA Engineering Skills and Areas of Practice required to support Manufacturing operations including support to test and delivery.
- Engineering & Systems Support Analysis(GB) - covers BDA Engineering Skills and Areas of Practice required to influence the supportability design and identify user support requirements for delivered products, perform support analysis as the basis for determining, defining and/or evaluating specific support needs, such as support equipment, technical data, manpower requirements, training and training devices, customer facility requirements, and base/site activation activities. Identifies, recommends or defines maintainable hardware, appropriate maintainable configurations, most appropriate repair locations/levels, and spares provisioning requirements. Supports lifecycle cost trade studies and analyses.
- Retrofit, Repairs, Modifications & Maintenance (GF) - covers BDA Engineering Skills and Areas of Practice required to manage, plan, research, develop, analyse and design retrofit and repair solutions that comply with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.
This role requires excellent knowledge of its designated Engineering Skill Streams and the ability to raise, train, retain and grow a diverse and geographically dispersed engineering workforce that is predominately embedded in BDA's various Business Units. As such, this role is responsible for the management of the total talent pipeline of its designated Engineering skill streams required and in-use by all Business Units today and into the future in order to achieve BDA's Long-Range Business Plans
Responsibilities
- Advise individuals on career and development goals, and support staff movements and promotions.
- Identify engineering talent and support staff in achieving technical leadership roles
- Develop, review, approve training materials and development artifacts.
- Provide reports and recommendations to the Engineering Director and Leadership Team regarding engineering capability development.
- Build relationships with the Functional Chief Engineer office.
- Manage key engineering governance and performance measures, including risks and issues.
- Execute Engineering Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and direct related activities.
- Support gate reviews and technical design reviews as needed.
- Strengthen relevant Areas of Practice across the business.
- Ensure timely resourcing and decision-making for key technical issue resolution and project support.
- Assist Business Unit Engineering Managers in delivering Engineering Products & Services to meet objectives.
Experience/Qualifications
- Strong understanding of Mechanical and Production Engineering.
- Hold an engineering qualification in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
- Excellent communicator who can engage a diverse and geographically dispersed Engineering population.
- Experience in supporting program execution and delivering technical excellence.
